Milovice Nature Reserve

The area

The Milovic Nature Reserve is a Natura 2000 site, near Prague in the Czech Republic.

A disused military test site near Milovice lay deserted and was overgrown by scrub grass and other species, reducing biodiversity. In 2015, the organisation European Wildlife launched a rewilding project to restore the ecosystem by deploying three large grazers: Tauros, wisents and Exmoor ponies.

Grazing target

In 2016, we brought the first animals to the Czech Republic. Over time, stud bulls and new animals have been added. The grazers open up the landscape of the former defence site and increase biodiversity.

Some 40 Tauros and 40 Exmoor ponies graze here along with wisents
